Sam knew that he wanted to be a therapist in the ninth grade, and his passion for therapy is present in each session with his clients. He has a gift for connecting and building relationships with his clients, which he believes is the most important building block of therapy. Sam's first goal in his work with clients is to bring humanity into the space and allow his clients to dictate what they need, though he is far from passive!
He views therapy as team work. If you are looking for someone who is going to get in the dirt on their hands and knees with you, then Sam is your guy! He thrives on being able to help clients identify patterns, gain insight, reframe negative beliefs/narratives, and guide through identity exploration.
Sam works primarily with members of the trans and queer communities. Sam is a trans-man, and he uses his experience with gender transition to help others make stronger connections to their own identities.
Sam received his Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2015, and he received his LCSW in 2018. Sam’s primary approaches to therapy include EMDR, IFS, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. In addition to individual therapy, Sam sees couples and leads groups for queer and trans individuals and their families. He is also available to consult with individuals seeking gender affirming surgery letters and write those letters cost-free.
Sam offers individual consultation to mental health professionals including LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and students. As someone with both lived and professional experience, Sam offers consultation on cases involving clients who self-identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Consultation can benefit clinicians who may be seeking additional resources for their clients, have questions regarding population-specific issues, and/or are looking for advice on how to best work with co-occurring issues. Consultation is offered virtually at a fee of $200. Please know that consultation is not meant to be psychotherapy. If you are interested, please reach out!
Self-care isn’t enough - we need community care. At Empower, Sam facilitates two virtal support groups: TransPartners: a space for partners/spouses of gender expansive folx and Grown Folx Chat: a space for trans/gender-expansive folx over 30.
Sam’s fees for therapy are $225 for individual therapy, $250 for couples therapy, and $75 for group therapy.
Sam is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker #86590
